Deer Park High School PE Award Winners 2026
Giovanna Luppy and Thomas Wesnofske, Deer Park High School seniors, won the 2026 Suffolk Zone Awards from the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. The organization selects one male and one female student from each Suffolk high school annually based on excellence in physical education, character, and school leadership.
Luppy competes in cross-country, winter track, spring track, and Unified basketball. She leads the Patriot Club as president and serves as vice president of the International Culture Club. She also participates in Falcon Leaders, Best Buddies, Art Club, Student Booster Club, and SADD Club.
"Physical education taught me how new experiences build confidence and teamwork," Luppy said. "By supporting and motivating others, we create an environment where everyone feels comfortable learning and improving."
Wesnofske runs cross-country, swims, and competes in spring track. He earned All-League honors in swimming and track. An AP Scholar and Scholar-Athlete, he belongs to the National Honor Society, Math and Science Honor Society, and Tri-M Music Honor Society. He won a trophy at the State DECA Career Conference in Rochester.
"Physical education taught me to try new things and interact with students across the school," Wesnofske said. "I developed an appreciation for building inclusive communities where every student feels valued."
