Daytona Beach area veterans may find new career opportunities through a national initiative aimed at bringing their skills and dedication to the funeral service profession.
The “Journey to Serve” campaign, launched in 2021 by the Funeral Service Foundation and the ICCFA Educational Foundation, seeks to engage, recruit, and hire more military veterans for careers in funeral service. The program highlights the valuable attributes veterans possess, such as discipline, leadership, and a commitment to service, which align well with the demands of the funeral industry.
For those considering end-of-life arrangements, the campaign also touches upon the specific services available for active duty or retired military personnel. These services can include a Military Funeral Honors (MFH) ceremony, a tribute that involves the ceremonial folding and presentation of the U.S. flag, the playing of Taps, and military pallbearers.
Memorial Planning, a network of funeral, cremation, and cemetery providers with over 460 locations nationwide, is associated with this initiative. They serve approximately 66,000 families annually and offer comprehensive services for immediate needs or pre-planning, including burials, funerals, and cremations. The organization expressed pride in supporting and honoring veterans.
The campaign emphasizes that military funeral honors are a profound tribute, reflecting the nation's deep respect for veterans' service and sacrifice. Each element of the ceremony is designed to honor their dedication and provide a heartfelt, dignified farewell.
