VA Chaplains Help Homeless Veterans in Daytona Beach
Homeless veterans in Daytona Beach need more than shelter to recover. They need meaning.
The Department of Veterans Affairs recognizes spiritual care as essential to healing, not an afterthought. Veterans experiencing homelessness often face spiritual wounds that housing alone cannot address: abandonment, lost identity, and disconnection from community.
VA chaplains bridge that gap. They help veterans restore a sense of purpose and belonging by addressing emotional and moral needs alongside physical recovery. The work requires no religious belief. Chaplains serve veterans who identify as spiritual, religious, or simply seeking direction.
"Spirituality encompasses finding meaning, purpose, and connection," said a VA spokesperson. Chaplains use evidence-based listening and empathy to help veterans reconcile who they are with their current circumstances.
The VA employs fewer than 900 chaplains nationwide. Services are free and confidential for any veteran eligible for VA health care.
Family and friends can help by encouraging struggling veterans to contact a chaplain. Veterans experiencing homelessness or at risk can call the National Call Center for Homeless Veterans at 877-424-3838. More information is available through the VA Homeless Programs website.
