Daytona Beach Marine Named Volusia County's First Veteran of the Year

Pierre Louis, a retired Marine Corps officer, has been named Volusia County's first Veteran of the Year through the Volusia Values Veterans Program, which honors veterans who serve their communities after military service.

The Volusia County Council will proclaim June 2 as Pierre Louis Day during a 9 a.m. meeting at the Thomas C. Kelly Administration Center in DeLand. Louis served more than 20 years in aviation maintenance and as a helicopter pilot, earning numerous military honors.

Since retiring, Louis has held leadership positions with the Military Officers Association of America, mentored veterans and seniors, and volunteered throughout Daytona Beach. He previously chaired the Midtown Redevelopment Board.
