East Dundee Updates Flood Plain Rules for Federal Insurance
The Village of East Dundee amended its flood plain regulations February 2 to maintain participation in the National Flood Insurance Program and comply with updated Federal Emergency Management Agency requirements.
The Village Board approved changes to Chapter 152 of the Village Code after FEMA required municipalities to adopt ordinances based on revised Flood Insurance Rate Maps for Cook County. The updated ordinance takes effect January 23, 2026.
The new rules let residents make repairs and improvements valued up to 50 percent of their property's current assessment over a 10-year period, replacing the previous lifetime limit. The ordinance adds requirements for protecting critical facilities within the 500-year floodplain and establishes clearer procedures for determining substantial improvements and damage to properties.
The Village's Building Inspector now serves as Floodplain Administrator for enforcement. Residents with questions can contact the Village at [email protected] or visit eastdundee.net for the updated Flood Plain Regulations.
