Residents and visitors along the Alabama and Florida Gulf Coasts are advised that dangerous rip currents are expected through late Saturday night. The National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, AL has issued a Rip Current Statement effective immediately, October 6, at 3:09 AM CDT, and expiring Saturday, October 11, at 6:00 AM CDT.

This alert affects Mobile Coastal and Baldwin Coastal Counties in Alabama, and Escambia Coastal, Santa Rosa Coastal, and Okaloosa Coastal Counties in Florida.

Rip currents pose a significant danger as they can sweep even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water. The NWS stresses the importance of caution for anyone entering the surf.

If you plan to be in the water, swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, the NWS advises to relax and float. Do not swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
