Dangerous Rip Current Statement Issued for Local Coasts Until Sunday Evening

A Rip Current Statement has been issued for Baldwin, Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa coastal counties until Sunday evening, warning of dangerous rip currents.

Coastal residents and visitors in Baldwin County, Alabama, and Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa Counties in Florida are advised to exercise extreme caution due to a Rip Current Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL.

This Moderate Severity Rip Current Statement is effective immediately, beginning Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 6:33 PM CDT, and will remain in effect until Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 7:00 PM CDT. The NWS warns that dangerous rip currents are expected along these coastal areas.

Rip currents pose a significant danger, capable of sweeping even strong swimmers away from the shore into deeper waters. To ensure safety, the NWS advises swimming near a lifeguard. If you find yourself caught in a rip current, the primary instruction is to relax and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. If possible, swim in a direction parallel to the shoreline. If you are unable to escape, face the shore and signal for help by calling or waving.
