U.S. to Facilitate Further Israel-Lebanon Talks
The United States will facilitate discussions between delegations from Israel and Lebanon on May 14 and 15, according to a statement released by Department Spokesperson Thomas Pigott on May 8, 2026.
These talks follow an initial round of discussions on April 23. The upcoming meetings aim to advance progress toward a comprehensive peace and security agreement addressing core concerns for both countries, the statement said.
The planned discussions will focus on establishing a framework for lasting peace and security, delineating borders, restoring Lebanese sovereignty, and creating pathways for humanitarian relief and reconstruction in Lebanon. According to the State Department's statement, both nations have committed to approaching the talks with their national interests in mind. The United States intends to reconcile these interests seeking security for Israel, with sovereignty and reconstruction for Lebanon.
The U.S. government has stated its support for both countries in this process.
