Three Years Post-Wildfires, Many Maui Residents Face Ongoing Displacement

Three years after wildfires swept through Lahaina, Maui, many residents continue to reside in temporary housing. The 2020 fires, which caused 102 fatalities and destroyed thousands of structures, also impacted a significant historical site.

Local authorities have issued permits for hundreds of new homes, and builders have completed the construction of hundreds more. However, a segment of the population remains without permanent housing.
