Pasco County residents interested in serving civil process documents have a new opportunity through the Pasco Sheriff's Office. The office is accepting applications for individuals to become Special Process Servers, a role vital to the local justice system.

Applicants must complete a notarized application form and a 10-hour approved civil process service training course, achieving at least an 85% passing score. Authorized training programs include those offered by St. Petersburg College's College of Public Safety and Avalon Legal Information Services, Inc.

A $5,000 surety bond is also required to protect against potential damages caused by process server malfeasance, misfeasance, neglect of duty, or incompetence. Applicants must submit three letters of recommendation, with at least one from an active member of the Florida Bar.

A non-refundable fee of $250 for new applicants and $200 for renewals, payable to the Pasco Sheriff's Office, must accompany the application. All required documents should be delivered to the Civil Process Unit at 7432 Little Road, New Port Richey, FL 34654, either in person or by mail to 8661 Citizens Drive, New Port Richey, FL 34654.

The General Counsel's Office will review application packets and background check results before final approval by the Office of the Sheriff. Approved applicants will receive notification and instructions for obtaining their process server identification card. An updated list of appointed process servers is available on the Pasco Sheriff's Office website.
