Vice Mayor Michael P. Callahan: 3 Decades Serving Cutler Bay

Michael P. Callahan, Cutler Bay's Vice Mayor, brings three decades of community involvement to his role. Callahan moved to Cutler Bay with his family in 1977.

His service includes leadership positions with the Spartan Band Parents Association and the PTA for Whispering Pines Elementary School. He also participated in the COAST Academy Parents Association and currently leads the Miami Southridge Alumni Association as its president.

Callahan served on the Cutler Bay Parks & Recreational Advisory Committee from 2009 to 2016, chairing the committee for the last six years of his tenure. He prioritizes the town's development and recreational spaces.

Professionally, Callahan has over 30 years of experience in theater, broadcast, and facility management. He holds a Florida Building Contractor license and has managed large corporate facilities and overseen new construction for various businesses, including restaurants, healthcare facilities, retail warehouses, and shipping centers.

Callahan and his wife have three children: Casey, Derek, and Connor, and one grandchild, Carter.

His creative works include the 2009 children's book “Daddy Daddy it’s Time for Bed” and the 1988 musical “What Might Have Been,” which premiered in Miami and featured 19 original songs.

Callahan advocates for managing development in line with the principles that guided Cutler Bay's incorporation. He stresses continued park improvements and expansion, along with strong business community support, to maintain Cutler Bay as a premier place to live, work, and play.
