The Miami Beach Fire Department, in partnership with the Miami Burn Center at Ryder Trauma Center, will host its 39th Annual Children’s Fire Safety Festival from Oct. 13-15. The event, held during National Fire Prevention Week, aims to teach first- through third-graders essential fire safety skills through interactive learning stations. Students from Miami-Dade communities, including Cutler Bay, will attend.
The festival takes place at the Miami Beach Convention Center's Lincoln Ballroom. Hands-on activities will cover topics such as "Stop, Drop and Roll," home fire prevention, kitchen and bathroom safety, and a simulation for calling 911. These exercises equip children with emergency preparedness knowledge.
Miami Beach Fire Chief Digna Abello highlighted the significance of early fire safety education. "Teaching children about fire safety at a young age gives them skills that can stay with them for a lifetime," Abello said. "We are proud to host this year’s festival and work alongside our partners to make fire prevention education engaging and memorable for thousands of students in our community."
Several fire rescue agencies across Miami-Dade County are collaborating on the demonstrations. Participating departments include the City of Hialeah Fire Rescue, City of Miami Fire Rescue, Coral Gables Fire Rescue, Key Biscayne Fire Rescue, Homestead Air Reserve Base Fire Rescue and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. The festival runs daily from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with an opening ceremony scheduled for 9 a.m. on Oct. 13.
