Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Coles & Cumberland Counties Until 11:30 PM CDT

Residents of Coles and Cumberland Counties, Illinois, are advised to take immediate shelter as a Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS Lincoln IL) until 11:30 PM CDT tonight, September 20, 2026.

At 10:42 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was detected near Neoga, moving east at 25 mph. This storm is capable of producing 60 mph wind gusts, which can cause damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Radar indicated these hazards.

The severe storm is expected to impact Janesville around 10:50 PM CDT. Other locations affected include Trilla, Fox Ridge State Park, Etna, and Paradise. This warning also covers Interstate 57 between mile markers 177 and 185, and Interstate 70 between mile markers 118 and 119, and between mile markers 121 and 126.

For your protection, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Remain alert for a possible tornado; tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado, go at once into the basement or a small central room in a sturdy structure.
