Residents in Interior Del Norte County, particularly near Gasquet and along HWY 199, are advised to seek immediate shelter indoors due to a strong thunderstorm identified by Doppler radar. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Eureka, CA, issued a Special Weather Statement at 5:40 PM PDT today, September 16, concerning a storm moving west at 10 mph.

The NWS reports frequent cloud-to-ground lightning with this storm. Lightning can strike up to 10 miles away from the storm's center. The primary hazard is pea-size hail, which could cause minor damage to outdoor objects. The storm is currently located 8 miles southeast of Gasquet, or 13 miles east of Jedediah Smith State Park, and is impacting areas including Gasquet and HWY 199.
