CRAWFORD AND PEACH COUNTIES, GA – Residents in Crawford and Peach counties should seek immediate shelter due to a strong thunderstorm moving through the area. The National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City issued a Special Weather Statement at 8:09 PM EDT, effective until 8:45 PM EDT tonight, October 10.
NWS doppler radar detected a strong thunderstorm near Fort Valley, specifically over Lee Pope, moving north at 35 mph. The primary hazards associated with this storm include winds of 40 to 50 mph and an increased chance of a brief tornado. Radar indicated localized rotation within the storm, suggesting a brief tornado could form quickly.
While winds are expected to cause minor damage to tree limbs and blow around light, unsecured objects, the potential for a brief tornado requires immediate action. People outdoors in the affected areas must seek shelter immediately.
