URGENT: Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Covington County; Seek Shelter Immediately

COVINGTON COUNTY, AL – October 10, 2026 – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, AL has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Covington County, effective immediately until 9:15 AM UTC today, October 10, 2026. This warning impacts residents in Andalusia and Opp.
Extreme wind of equivalent CAT 3 hurricane force or higher is expected through the next few hours, with peak wind forecasts of 50-65 mph and gusts up to 85 mph. Residents must focus all last-minute efforts solely on protecting life. Now is the time to shelter from life-threatening wind and be prepared to move to the safest place inside your shelter if necessary. Catastrophic wind damage is anticipated.
While no additional significant rainfall is forecast, the potential for major flooding rain remains a significant threat. Emergency plans should include the potential for major flooding, and evacuations and rescues are likely. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to take action will likely result in serious injury or loss of life. Major rainfall flooding may prompt numerous evacuations and rescues, and flood waters could make many roads impassable.
