A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, CO, alerting residents to a strong thunderstorm moving through the Southwest San Juan Mountains, Paradox Valley/Lower Dolores River, and Four Corners/Upper Dolores River areas. The statement is effective immediately and expires at 7:15 PM MDT tonight, September 16, 2026.

At 6:49 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm over Dove Creek, approximately 25 miles east of Monticello, moving north at 30 mph. Hazards include wind gusts up to 40 mph and nickel-sized hail. These conditions could lead to downed tree limbs, unsecured objects blowing around, and minor hail damage to vegetation and outdoor items.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, which may cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Locations impacted include Dove Creek and Egnar. This also affects U.S. Highway 491 in Colorado between mile markers 54 and 67, and Colorado 141 between mile markers 1 and 15. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building immediately.
