For immediate release: June 15, 2026Contact: Office of the City Manager 352-728-9786 ext. 1100 [email protected] Groundbreaking scheduled for Leesburg’s 5th Street downtown parking lot project LEESBURG, FL – Construction will soon begin on Leesburg’s 5th Street downtown parking lot. The official groundbreaking is set for 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 22nd. The ceremony will be held on the project site at 429 West Magnolia Street, Leesburg. The $1.07 million project will create an improved parking area by redeveloping the former Leesburg Center for the Arts/Special Events building and surrounding parking areas. The design will add over 100 new parking spaces. Additional improvements include landscaping and lighting as well as street connectivity for safer pedestrian activities. Construction will be completed in three phases over several months to minimize disruptions. The City's Engineer of Record, GAI Consultants, Inc. completed the permitting and design portion of the project. Paqco, Inc. was selected as the City’s General Contractor to execute the construction portion. The public is invited to attend the ceremony.
