Raleigh's Plan to Cut Traffic Deaths 50% by 2040
Raleigh completed its Comprehensive Safety Action Plan on Thursday, targeting a 50% reduction in deadly and serious injury crashes by 2040 and aiming to eliminate such incidents by 2055.
The city secured $2.7 million through the U.S. Department of Transportation's Safe Streets and Roads for All grant program, established under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law in 2022. Raleigh Transportation led the plan's development, which included a 2025 public survey and analysis of crash data to identify high-injury corridors.
The plan addresses safety for drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, and transit users across the city, with emphasis on downtown and the Beltline corridor.
