Road Maintenance Marion County's road system covers 1,120 miles. A County Road is defined as a public right-of-way that has been formally accepted by the County Commissioners as a County Road. These roads are under the care and maintenance of the Marion County Public Works Department. Non-County Roads are any roadways constructed in a public right-of-way that have not been accepted by the Marion County Commissioners as a County Road. The maintenance of these roads is the responsibility of the local property owners. Marion County is generally prohibited from spending road funds on any road that is not an officially designated County Road. For hazardous roadway conditions that need immediate attention, please call: Marion County Public Works Dispatch 503-588-5304 Hazardous roadway conditions can include:Stop sign or road sign down or missing Malfunctioning traffic signal Tree on roadway obstructing traffic Debris or material on roadway obstructing traffic flow Drainage or flooding issue obstructing traffic flow Dead animal obstructing traffic flow Pothole or sink-hole imposing significant traffic hazard You can report non-hazardous/non-emergency concerns through our Report-A-Concern system. County Road Districts Vegetation Management Marion County uses an Integrated Vegetation Management approach, a proactive way to manage vegetation along rights-of-way. This utilizes appropriate control methods to balance site-specific needs with environmental considerations. Integrated Vegetation Management Program Highlights You can complete a Private Maintenance Agreement for Vegetation Management form to request Marion County Public Works limit vegetation control measures by creating a private maintenance area. District Map Copy of 2026 Spray Schedule.xls Gravel Roads Roads that do not have a hard surface are "unpaved" and most if not all of Marion County's unpaved roads are "gravel," meaning they are constructed and maintained with mineral aggregate or rock. Re-smoothing the road generally takes place with re-grading with a motor grader. The county's 200-miles of gravel roads are all on a maintenance schedule based on many factors including weather and time of year. For more information on our gravel roads, check out our FAQ . Citizen Dust Abatement Program The purpose of the citizen dust abatement program is to stabilize the soil for public safety and to control dust and associated concerns generated by traffic during dry weather periods on gravel roadways within public right-of way. Marion County Department of Public Works is currently allowing qualified contractors to apply an environmentally sensitive dust abatement product to county maintained gravel roads in accordance with county maintenance regulations and specifications.
