ROCKFORD, Coosa – A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Rockford, Coosa County, effective immediately from the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL. The watch was issued at 6:57 AM CDT on October 9, 2026, and is set to expire at 3:00 PM CDT on the same day. Residents are urged to act now to complete preparations.

Hazardous winds of 39 to 57 mph are possible, with peak wind gusts up to 40 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway. Potential impacts include damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect broken tree limbs, some downed trees, and scattered power and communications outages. Driving conditions may become hazardous, particularly on bridges.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This could lead to moderate flooding, prompting possible evacuations and rescues. Rivers and streams may overflow their banks, and low-lying areas could experience rapid inundation. Heed any flood watches and warnings, as failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.

Tornadoes are not expected, according to the NWS, though showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur. For more information and preparedness resources, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
