A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Coosa County, with immediate action required to shelter from hazardous winds up to 75 mph and prepare for significant flooding.

Staff Writer
10/09/2026 · Coosa & Tallapoosa Region edition

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Coosa County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 9:56 PM CDT by the NWS Birmingham AL. Residents in Rockford are specifically advised to shelter from hazardous winds, which are forecast to reach 45-55 mph with gusts up to 75 mph until early Saturday afternoon. Last-minute efforts to protect property should now be complete.

A Flood Watch is also in effect for Coosa County. Additional rainfall of 1-3 inches, with locally higher amounts, is expected, posing a significant risk of moderate flooding. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should consider protective actions. Rivers and tributaries may quickly become swollen, and floodwaters could enter structures. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life. Driving conditions are expected to become hazardous, with potential road and bridge closures.

Tornadoes are not expected at this time. Stay informed of any changes to the forecast. For more information and hurricane preparedness resources, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
