Flash Flood Risk Continues for Central Alabama; All Warnings Canceled
A flash flooding risk continues for all of Central Alabama, despite the cancellation of all watches and warnings as post-tropical Isaias moves away, according to a NWS Birmingham statement issued October 10 at 4:03 AM CDT.
Central Alabama residents should remain vigilant as a flash flooding risk continues across the region, despite the cancellation of all previous watches and warnings. The National Weather Service in Birmingham, AL, issued a Tropical Cyclone Local Statement today, October 10, at 4:03 AM CDT, confirming that Hurricane Isaias is now post-tropical and has moved away from the area. However, the potential for localized hazardous flood waters remains a concern.
The system, last located about 110 miles south of Birmingham, is moving north at 14 mph. While wind impacts are no longer expected, and community officials are assessing any past damage, the main focus is now on potential flooding. Residents are advised to stay safely sheltered until conditions improve. If venturing outside, avoid downed power lines, hazardous debris, and flooded areas. Do not drive through flooded roads; remember, "Turn around, don't drown!"
For those impacted by damage, be alert for gas leaks, and use flashlights instead of candles. Check on neighbors and assist those in need. Emergency vehicles may experience delays due to road hazards. This will be the final local statement from NWS Birmingham regarding tropical cyclone hazards for this event.
