Gary Henley, Clayton Custom Home Builder, Dies at 81

Gary Neil Henley, who founded Henley Construction Inc. and G.N. Henley Engineering in Clayton, died April 22 at his home. He was 81.

Born April 3, 1945, in Albany, Mr. Henley moved to Clayton after his marriage and spent 54 years there building custom homes. He constructed more than 30 homes throughout the community and built his own residence.

His son Cheston Henley and daughter Laura Henley-Ford now run G.N. Henley Engineering and plan to pass the business to his grandchildren. Mr. Henley worked in construction until his final days. He hunted, collected hot rods, and traveled with friends.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Susan Henley; his children; grandchildren Hunter Henley and Daniella Henley; his dog Blu; and siblings Robert Henley, Joe Henley, Judy Henley, and Sue Joyal. His parents, Kenney and Eva Jo Henley, preceded him in death.

A celebration of life will be held June 28 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Oakhurst Country Club, 1001 Peacock Creek Drive, Clayton.
