A Heat Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Sacramento for our area, effective immediately until Wednesday, October 7, at 10:00 PM PDT. Residents are urged to take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses.

High temperatures of 94 to 102 degrees are expected, with overnight lows remaining in the mid-60s to low-70s. This prolonged heat creates widespread Moderate HeatRisk, with some areas experiencing Major HeatRisk. The hottest days are anticipated from Monday through Wednesday.

The advisory affects a wide region, including the Western Shasta County Foothills, South-Central Shasta County including Redding Metro, Eastern Shasta County Foothills, the Sierra Nevada of Tehama-Butte-Plumas Counties (between 1000-3000 ft), the Northern, Central, and Southern Motherlode (between 1000-3000 ft), Western Tehama County Foothills, Northern Sacramento Valley in Tehama County, Central and Eastern Glenn County (including Interstate 5), Butte County below 1000 ft, Western Glenn and Colusa County Foothills, Central and Eastern Colusa County, Sutter and Yuba Counties below 1000 ft, Capay Hills of Yolo County and Vaca Hills of Solano County, Western Yolo County (including Capay Valley and Interstate 505), Central Yolo and Northeast Solano Counties, Sacramento Metro and Western El Dorado and Amador Counties, Central and Southwestern Solano County, Sacramento and San Joaquin County Deltas, Central San Joaquin County (including Stockton Metro), Tracy Triangle below 1000 ft, Northeastern San Joaquin Valley below 1000 ft, Eastern Diablo Range above 1000 ft, and Western and Central Stanislaus County (including Modesto Metro).

The NWS advises drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned rooms, and limiting time in the sun. Check on relatives and neighbors, especially those without effective cooling. When outside, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, and limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening hours. Be aware of symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke and take immediate action if they occur.
