A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for George County, including Lucedale, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL, effective October 7 at 4:03 PM CDT. This watch means tropical storm-force winds are possible within the area in the next 48 hours.

Residents in Lucedale should immediately begin preparations for dangerous winds, potentially reaching 58 to 73 mph. Significant wind damage is possible, including damage to roofing, siding, and mobile homes. Large trees may snap or uproot, and roads could become impassable due to debris. Scattered power and communications outages are also expected. Act now to complete all preparations before hazardous winds arrive.

A threat of moderate flooding rain is also forecast, with 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Emergency plans should account for potential moderate flooding, which could lead to evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings.

No storm surge inundation is forecast, and tornadoes are not expected. For local information, contact George County EMA at 601-947-7557 or visit www.facebook.com/GeorgeCountyMsEmergencyManagement.
