Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Miller County: Prepare Immediately

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Miller County, including Colquitt, with immediate threats of hazardous winds, major flooding, and tornadoes; residents must prepare now and move to safe shelter.

Staff Writer

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Miller County, effective immediately, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee. Residents in Colquitt and surrounding areas should take immediate action as hazardous conditions are expected to begin shortly.

The NWS forecasts peak winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to unsecured structures, large tree limbs, and power outages are possible. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds arrive.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain expected, potentially causing major flooding. Evacuations and rescues are likely; heed all flood watches and warnings. Many roads may become impassable, and driving conditions will be dangerous. Failure to take action could result in serious injury or loss of life.

Furthermore, the situation is highly favorable for tornadoes, with the potential for many, some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats must relocate to safe shelter now. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly. The warning is in effect until 7:15 PM UTC today, October 9, 2026.
