Residents of Coosa County, specifically the Rockford area, must finalize preparations immediately as a Tropical Storm Warning has been issued. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, issued the warning today, October 9, at 10:17 AM CDT, indicating tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours. The warning is effective until 6:30 PM UTC on October 9.

Peak wind gusts of up to 55 mph are anticipated, with sustained winds between 20-30 mph. This could lead to limited damage to structures like porches and sheds, broken tree limbs, and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect property should be underway now.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain possible, and locally higher amounts. Moderate rainfall flooding could prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and small streams may overflow, and floodwaters could enter some structures. Heed all flood watches and warnings.

Tornadoes are not expected at this time. For more information and hurricane preparedness resources, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
