Strong Thunderstorm Warning: Gusty Winds Expected in Kalamazoo, Calhoun, Jackson

A Special Weather Statement has been issued for Kalamazoo, Calhoun, and Jackson counties, warning of a strong thunderstorm with winds exceeding 40 mph, effective until 9:45 PM EDT tonight; residents outdoors should seek shelter.

Residents in Kalamazoo, Calhoun, and Jackson counties should prepare for gusty winds due to a strong thunderstorm. The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has issued a Special Weather Statement, effective immediately and expiring at 9:45 PM EDT tonight, September 15, 2026.

At 8:41 PM EDT, radar indicated a strong thunderstorm 9 miles south of Climax, or 13 miles south of Battle Creek, moving east at 45 mph. This storm is expected to bring winds in excess of 40 mph. The primary impact will be gusty winds capable of knocking down tree limbs and blowing around unsecured objects. If you are outdoors, you should consider seeking shelter inside a building.

Areas expected to be impacted include Jackson, Albion, Marshall, Homer, Union City, Burlington, Vandercook Lake, Spring Arbor, Sandstone, Fulton, Marengo, Pulaski, Concord, Athens, Horton, Springport, Parma, Tekonsha, Hanover, and Liberty.
