Strong Storm with 40 MPH Winds Nearing Winona Lake

Residents in Northern and Southern Kosciusko County, particularly near Winona Lake, Pierceton, Claypool, Ridinger Lake, Palestine, and Wooster, should seek shelter indoors due to a strong thunderstorm approaching. The National Weather Service (NWS) Northern Indiana has issued a Special Weather Statement effective until 9:30 PM EDT tonight, September 15, 2026.

At 8:45 PM EDT, radar indicated a strong thunderstorm near Winona Lake, moving east at 25 mph. This storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 40 mph. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, which may lead to localized flooding. Drivers are advised to not drive vehicles through flooded roadways. If you are outdoors in the affected areas, immediately seek shelter inside a sturdy building.
