Special Weather Statement: Strong Thunderstorm Threatens Hood, Somervell, Johnson, Bosque

A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Fort Worth TX for parts of Hood, Somervell, Johnson, and Bosque counties, effective until 5:00 PM CDT today, September 20, 2026. Residents are advised that if outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.

At 4:32 PM CDT, Doppler radar detected a strong thunderstorm near Glen Rose, approximately 19 miles southwest of Cleburne. This storm is moving northeast at 10 mph. The primary hazard associated with this storm is wind gusts up to 50 mph, which could result in knocked down tree limbs and unsecured objects being blown around. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible.

The affected areas include mainly rural locations such as Walnut Springs, Eulogy, Nemo, Rainbow, and Brazos Point. This storm is expected to remain over eastern Somervell, southwestern Johnson, north central Bosque, and east central Hood Counties. The NWS advises monitoring local radio and television stations for additional information and possible warnings as this storm may intensify.
