Rip Current Warning Issued for East Coast Beaches Through Tuesday Morning
A Rip Current Statement has been issued for coastal Volusia, Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin, and Brevard counties, effective through Tuesday morning, with dangerous rip currents expected.
Beachgoers should avoid entering the surf along coastal Volusia, Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin, and Brevard counties due to a Rip Current Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Melbourne FL. This warning is in effect from 1:57 AM EDT on October 3 until 4:00 AM EDT on October 4.
Dangerous rip currents are expected across Coastal Volusia, Coastal Indian River, Coastal Saint Lucie, Coastal Martin, Mainland Northern Brevard, Northern Brevard Barrier Islands, Mainland Southern Brevard, and Southern Brevard Barrier Islands. Rip currents are powerful channels of water that can sweep even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water.
The NWS strongly advises against entering the surf. If caught in a rip current, remain calm, relax, and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline. If you cannot escape, face the shore and call or wave for help. Heed all advice from lifeguards, beach patrol flags, and signs.
