A Red Flag Warning is in effect today from 2 PM to 8 PM MDT for Goose Creek, Raft River Valley, Southern Sawtooth NF, and Twin Falls BLM south of the Snake River due to gusty winds and low humidity, increasing wildfire risk.
A Red Flag Warning has been issued for Fire Weather Zone 427, encompassing the Goose Creek and Raft River Valley, Southern Sawtooth National Forest, and Twin Falls BLM south of the Snake River. The National Weather Service in Pocatello, ID, issued the warning, which is in effect from 2 PM MDT today, October 9, until 8 PM MDT this evening.
Critical fire weather conditions are expected due to southwest winds reaching 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph, combined with relative humidity as low as 12 percent. These conditions significantly increase the risk of rapid wildfire spread.
Residents in the affected areas should exercise extreme caution. Avoid all outdoor activities that could spark a fire, such as operating equipment that creates sparks, burning debris, or using any open flames. Report any signs of smoke or fire immediately to emergency services.
