A Red Flag Warning has been issued for the Goose Creek and Raft River Valley, Southern Sawtooth National Forest, and Twin Falls BLM south of the Snake River. The National Weather Service in Pocatello states that this warning is in effect from 2 PM MDT on Friday, October 8, until 8 PM MDT on Friday, October 8.

Critical fire weather conditions are expected due to gusty winds and low relative humidity. Winds are predicted to be southwest at 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph. Relative humidity is anticipated to drop as low as 12 percent.

A Red Flag Warning signifies that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring or will shortly. This is based on criteria including relative humidity at or below 15 percent and wind gusts of at least 25 mph in the mountains or 30 mph in the Snake Plain, or other high impact events deemed critical by the National Weather Service and area fire management agencies.

Residents in the affected areas should exercise extreme caution to prevent wildfires. Secure any potential ignition sources and be aware of increased fire risk.
