A Heat Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) San Francisco CA, urging residents across a wide area of the Bay Area to take immediate precautions due to expected hot conditions. The advisory is effective immediately, from October 6 at 8:52 AM PDT, and will remain in effect until October 8 at 10:00 PM PDT.

Maximum temperatures are forecast to range from the mid-90s to near 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Mild minimum temperatures and weak onshore flow are expected to limit overnight relief from the heat.

Areas affected include the Sonoma Coastal Range, North Bay Interior Mountains, North Bay Interior Valleys, San Francisco Bay Shoreline, East Bay Interior Valleys, Santa Cruz Mountains, Santa Clara Valley (including San Jose), Eastern Santa Clara Hills, East Bay Hills, Southern Salinas Valley/Arroyo Seco and Lake San Antonio, Santa Lucia Mountains and Los Padres National Forest, and Mountains of San Benito County and Interior Monterey County (including Pinnacles National Park).

The NWS warns that this level of heat affects anyone without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration, and impacts are likely in some health systems, heat-sensitive industries, and infrastructure.

Residents are advised to hydrate regularly. Drink water, and if possible, provide water to vulnerable individuals. When outdoors, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, and limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening hours. Take immediate action if experiencing symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Crucially, never leave young children or pets in unattended vehicles, as car interiors can reach lethal temperatures rapidly.
