Freeze Warning Issued: Protect Plants and Pipes Tonight
A Freeze Warning has been issued for multiple Upper Michigan counties, effective tonight through Saturday morning, with temperatures as low as 27 degrees expected; residents should protect plants and outdoor pipes immediately.
Residents in multiple Upper Michigan counties are advised to take immediate action to protect sensitive vegetation and outdoor plumbing. The National Weather Service (NWS) Marquette MI has issued a Freeze Warning effective from 10 PM EDT /9 PM CDT/ this evening, October 2, until 10 AM EDT /9 AM CDT/ tomorrow, Saturday, October 3.
Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 27 degrees Fahrenheit are expected. This alert affects Ontonagon, Houghton, Baraga, Marquette, Alger, Luce, Gogebic, Iron, Dickinson, Menominee, Delta, Southern Schoolcraft, Southern Houghton, and Northern Schoolcraft counties.
The NWS warns that frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and other sensitive plants, and potentially damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Residents should take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.
To prevent water pipes from freezing, wrap or drain them, or allow them to drip slowly. For those with in-ground sprinkler systems, drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
