A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Aberdeen SD for today, October 10, 2026, warning of elevated fire weather concerns and potential blowing dust.

Residents in Traverse, Big Stone, Marshall, Roberts, Day, Clark, Codington, Grant, Hamlin, and Deuel counties should be aware of warm and dry conditions combined with strong wind gusts. Grassland Fire Danger is expected to reach the High Category this afternoon. Strong southerly winds, gusting up to 25 to 35 miles per hour, are expected this morning, with some localized gusts up to 45 miles per hour possible. Winds are forecast to decrease through the afternoon, but gusts up to 30 miles per hour may continue. Minimum afternoon humidity will drop to 25 to 35 percent.

Additionally, these strong winds may create blowing dust, causing reduced visibility at times. This statement is effective from 1:47 AM CDT and expires at 7:00 PM CDT today. The NWS advises caution regarding outdoor burning and to be prepared for reduced visibility on roadways.
