COLUMBUS – Any business, profession, trade, or occupation operating within the Town of Columbus now requires an operating permit. The town implemented this requirement to maintain an accurate record of all businesses within the community and to help ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
An operating permit is necessary for each separate business location. To apply, businesses must provide several key pieces of information, including the business's name and mailing address, its physical address, and the contact information for a designated representative. Additionally, applicants need to supply a brief description of the business's principal activity and the number of employees at that location.
New businesses will also need to submit a zoning permit as part of their application. The initial fee for obtaining an operating permit is $25. The Columbus Town Council will determine the annual renewal fee each fiscal year.
Completed applications, along with the $25 initial fee, should be submitted to the Town Hall, located at 12 E Mills Street, Columbus, NC 28722. For any questions regarding the operating permit requirements or the application process, residents can contact Town Hall directly at (828) 894-8236.
