class="title"> Sarv Mithaqiyan Wed, 04/08/2026 - 09:33 D&O Community Corrections staff wore teal on April 7, the Day of Action for Sexual Assault Awareness Month, to raise awareness about sexual violence and show support for victims/survivors. This April marks the 25th anniversary of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and in Dodge and Olmsted counties, the work of prevention, support, and healing continues every day. Dodge & Olmsted (D&O) Victim Services provides confidential, compassionate support to survivors of sexual assault and other crimes, as well as to their families and loved ones.    Sexual violence remains widespread across the United States. Key national findings show that:   More than half of women and nearly one-third of men experience contact sexual violence in their lifetime.   In most cases, the person who caused harm is someone the survivor knows.   Sexual violence affects people of every background, identity, and community.   These realities highlight why strong local support matters.   D&O Victim Services plays a central role in supporting our community by offering clear guidance, practical resources, and steady support to people affected by sexual assault. The team helps individuals navigate the legal process, understand their rights, access counseling or financial assistance, and secure protective orders when needed.   Advocates are also present during medical exams or interviews with law enforcement to ensure survivors are never alone during difficult moments. These services are available not only to survivors but also to their families and support networks.   As part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Victim Services of Dodge & Olmsted Counties, in partnership with Three Rivers Restorative Justice, is hosting Community Building Restorative Circles throughout April. No registration is required. Questions may be directed to [email protected].  Sexual Assault Awareness Month events include:  Olmsted County Circle for community members to learn more about sexual violence.
