A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Colquitt County, including Moultrie, until October 9, 2026, at 7:15 PM UTC, with immediate preparations advised for hazardous winds, major flooding, and potential tornadoes.
MOULTRIE, GA – October 9, 2026 – The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Colquitt County, including Moultrie, effective immediately. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours. Residents should complete all preparations now before hazardous conditions begin.
Forecasts indicate peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with potential for hazardous wind of 39 to 57 mph. Limited damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unsecured lightweight objects is possible, along with broken tree limbs and scattered power outages.
In addition to wind, a Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Major rainfall flooding is anticipated, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could overflow, and floodwaters may enter structures. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.
The situation is also favorable for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Residents in manufactured homes should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings, and be ready to shelter quickly if one is issued. Tornadoes can hinder emergency plans and cause significant damage.
