Seek Shelter: Strong Thunderstorms with 40 MPH Gusts Impacting Region

A Special Weather Statement has been issued for Tift, Colquitt, Cook, Berrien, Lowndes, and Lanier counties, warning of strong thunderstorms with wind gusts up to 40 mph, effective until 5:45 PM EDT today.

Residents in Tift, Colquitt, Cook, Berrien, Lowndes, and Lanier counties should seek shelter indoors due to strong thunderstorms. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee, FL, issued a Special Weather Statement at 4:54 PM EDT today, October 3, indicating radar-confirmed wind gusts up to 40 mph.

These storms are currently tracking north at 20 mph, with the line extending from near Adel to near Ray City to 7 miles northwest of Mayday. The NWS advises that gusty winds could dislodge tree limbs and unsecured outdoor objects. The statement is effective immediately and expires at 5:45 PM EDT today.

Impacted locations include, but are not limited to, Nashville, Lakeland, Adel, Tifton, Sparks, Enigma, Ray City, Lenox, Alapaha, and Moody Air Force Base. Torrential rainfall is also accompanying these storms, which may lead to localized flooding. Drivers are cautioned to avoid flooded roadways.
