Strong Thunderstorm Warning: Shelter Indoors in El Paso County

Residents in Northern El Paso County, including Monument Ridge and the Rampart Range below 7500 ft, as well as the Colorado Springs Vicinity, Southern El Paso County, and the Rampart Range below 7400 ft, are advised to seek shelter indoors due to a strong thunderstorm. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Pueblo CO issued a Special Weather Statement at 8:39 PM MDT today, September 20.

Doppler radar detected a strong thunderstorm near Yoder, approximately 29 miles east of Colorado Springs, moving southeast at 10 mph. This storm is expected to bring wind gusts up to 50 mph and penny-sized hail. These conditions could result in downed tree limbs and unsecured objects being blown around. Minor damage to vegetation from hail is also possible.

Areas specifically impacted include Truckton, Yoder, Ellicott, and Rush. The Special Weather Statement is effective immediately and will expire at 9:30 PM MDT tonight, September 20. If you are outdoors, please consider seeking shelter inside a building for your safety.
