Strong Thunderstorm Nears Hanover: Seek Shelter Now

A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Pueblo, CO, effective immediately. Residents in the Colorado Springs Vicinity/Southern El Paso County/Rampart Range Below 7400 Ft and Pueblo Vicinity/Pueblo County Below 6300 Feet, specifically near Hanover and Fountain, should consider seeking shelter indoors.

At 9:09 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm near Hanover, approximately 19 miles southeast of Colorado Springs. The storm is moving east at 15 mph.

Hazards associated with this storm include wind gusts up to 50 mph and nickel-sized hail. The NWS warns that gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is also possible.

This Special Weather Statement is in effect until 9:45 PM MDT tonight. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect for southeastern and east central Colorado until 3:00 AM MDT.
