Calvary Chapel Sermon Notes: 1 Peter 2
1 PETER 2:11-18
1 PETER 2:11-18 Verse 11 – we are at war with the flesh -the flesh is the old life that still exists within us even after we are saved – 2 main enemies of the believer – the flesh and the enemy (demon forces) -to defeat both enemies, talk back to them Abstain – means to distance yourself from all fleshly desires and cravings and spend time with Jesus every day As we abstain from the flesh – v12 – people will be saved – v13 – we will become submissive & obedient POINT # 1 – WE ARE TO WALK IN A SPIRIT OF SUBMISSION TO ALL AUTHORITY 1. THE FIRST AUTHORITY WE SUBMIT TO IS JESUS CHRIST – 1 Peter 2:21 -Jesus Christ is our example concerning submission -We are to follow in His footsteps -Matt 26:39 & Phil 2:56-11 Lord – Jesus is going to control us – Lord means the supreme ruler and one who completely controls in every way 2. THE SECOND AUTHORITY WE ARE TO SUBMIT TO IS HUMAN AUTHORITIES – verse 13 (every ordinance of man) a. the definition of submission – it is a military term meaning to place yourself under an authority/to yield & surrender to the will of another/to arrange in order b. verse 12 – Honorable conduct – means being submissive is attractive – 1 Samuel 15:23 We need to be submissive for 2 main reasons: 1. To be blessed 2. To stay right with the Lord POINT #2 – ONLY SUBMIT TO AUTHORITIES THAT GO ALONG WITH THE WORD OF GOD AND JESUS – Daniel 3:1,4-7,12-18/Acts 5:17-21a,25-32(v29) -submit to every human-made institution & organization 1. Remember to receive a NO just as well as you receive a yes POINT#3 – SUBMISSION IS NOT BASED ON FEELINGS – 1 Peter 1:14 -We will not always want to submit, but we must always obey anyway -We are obedient people since we are saved – 1 Peter 1:14 -We are to be ruled by the Word and not by our emotions REMEMBER: EMOTIONS CANNOT BE OUR ANCHOR. EMOTIONS CAN MOVE US TOWARD OR AWAY FROM THE LORD AND HIS WORD The post Sermon Notes 4/19 – 1 Peter 2 appeared first on Calvary Chapel Worship Center.
