Lee County EMA to Host Skywarn Training
The Lee County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) will host a Skywarn Training on Thursday, May 9, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The training will take place at the EMA Office located at 1800 Frederick Road in Opelika.
Skywarn is a volunteer program with the National Weather Service. Skywarn volunteers are trained to identify and report severe weather events, such as tornadoes, hail, and flash floods. This information is used by the National Weather Service to issue timely and accurate warnings, which can help to save lives.
The Skywarn training session will cover the following topics:
What is severe weather?
How to identify severe weather
How to report severe weather
Severe weather safety tips
The training session is free and open to the public. However, registration is required. To register, please visit the Lee County EMA website or call 334-749-0240.
