Sarah Jenkins, a lifelong Cocoa resident and familiar face in local youth programs, has stepped into a new role at the Brevard County Extension Office as its new Extension Agent. This appointment signifies a full-circle moment for Jenkins, who participated in the same youth programs she will now help lead.
The Brevard County Extension Office, a resource for agricultural education, community development, and youth engagement, announced Jenkins's appointment earlier this week. She will develop and implement educational programs for youth and adults countywide, focusing on horticulture, environmental science, and leadership development. The position aims to foster community growth and provide residents with practical knowledge.
Jenkins began her involvement with the Extension Office as a child participating in 4-H clubs and other youth activities. These experiences shaped her confidence and leadership abilities. "I remember being a shy kid, but the structured activities and supportive environment of the youth programs really helped me come out of my shell," Jenkins said. "It taught me responsibility, teamwork, and the importance of community involvement."
Jenkins plans to build on existing programs and explore new initiatives to meet the evolving needs of Cocoa and Brevard County residents. Residents can visit the office's website or contact them directly to learn more about programs or involvement opportunities.
