Cocoa Police Collects 47 Guns, Recovers Stolen Firearm at Buyback Event

The Cocoa Police Department collected 47 firearms Friday at Save A Lot Plaza, including a weapon stolen from Rockledge.

Cocoa Police partnered with The Real Church and the Rockledge Police Department to host the event. Residents surrendered unwanted guns anonymously in exchange for gift cards. Officers secured weapons while participants remained in their vehicles.

Cocoa Police Chief Evander Collier said the event aimed to prevent tragedies and give residents a safe way to dispose of firearms. The stolen firearm will be returned through the investigative process.

The buyback followed a community discussion titled "Beyond the Bullet: Voices Left Behind," where families affected by gun violence, faith leaders, and law enforcement discussed violence's impact on individuals, families, and communities.

For more information, contact the Cocoa Police Department's non-emergency line at 321-639-7620.
