Cocoa residents who volunteer directly with Brevard Public Schools (BPS) students will no longer pay the initial fingerprinting fee until further notice. This waiver does not apply to volunteers at charter schools.

Charter school volunteers will continue to pay the standard $35 initial fingerprinting fee. Approved BPS volunteers must complete an online application and a VECHS Level II background check. After approval by the Office of District and School Security, applicants will proceed to the BPS Educational Services Facility for fingerprinting.

The BPS Educational Services Facility – Office of District and School Security is located at 2700 Judge Fran Jamieson Way in Viera. Fingerprinting services are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Applicants must disclose all arrests, including military arrests. Failure to do so will result in a one-year denial.

Approved volunteers pay an annual renewal fee of $8, payable online or in person via credit or debit card. The renewal process includes an online application and the background check at the district security office.

Appeals can be hand-delivered or mailed to the District & School Security office at the same Viera address. Appeals may take up to 30 days for review.
