Strong Storms Threaten Pontotoc, Coal, Johnston, Marshall Counties

Residents in Pontotoc, Coal, Johnston, and Marshall counties should consider seeking shelter indoors as strong thunderstorms are tracking eastward. The National Weather Service in Norman, OK issued a Special Weather Statement today, September 20, at 2:59 PM CDT, effective until 3:30 PM CDT.

Doppler radar indicates these storms are moving east at 15 mph, with a line extending from near Fittstown to 3 miles south of Mannsville. Hazards include wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea-sized hail. These conditions could lead to gusty winds knocking down tree limbs and blowing around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is also possible.

Impacted locations include Madill, Tishomingo, Mannsville, Ravia, Tupelo, Bromide, Pontotoc, Fittstown, Clarita, Reagan, Connerville, Russett, northern Lake Texoma, Oakland, and Jesse.
