Residents in Curry County, New Mexico, particularly near Ranchvale and northwest of Clovis, must seek immediate shelter due to a Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Albuquerque. The warning is in effect until 8:30 PM MDT tonight, September 29.
At 8:03 PM MDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Ranchvale, approximately 12 miles northwest of Clovis, moving northeast at 30 mph. Radar indicates the storm is capable of producing hazardous 60 mph wind gusts.
The NWS warns that these winds can cause damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Impacted locations include Ranchvale.
Immediate Action Required: Seek shelter inside a well-built structure and stay away from windows. This storm is capable of producing damaging winds. Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms; if this occurs, seek shelter immediately in an interior room on the lowest floor of a well-built structure. Torrential rainfall is also occurring, which may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
